We had a pretty good turnout on Saturday for our party to say a last goodbye to Avalon. There was cake, a relic hunt, cake, fireworks, more cake, and a closing photoshoot! Did I mention the cake?
Thanks to everyone who turned up throughout the evening to pay their respects, and indeed a big thank you to everyone who has played on the server since Avalon was created – you’ve made it a truly epic place that will be remembered fondly, and rightfully so.
Did you take any screenshots or even videos during the event? It would be awesome if you’d share them with us! Just click into this forum thread and post them there so that we can make sure they are recorded for posterity.
Here’s to the future!
After being our home for over two years, Avalon, a world of incredible history, is finally being moved off the server to take a well-earned rest. Come join me in saying goodbye as the switch is flicked!
There will be music, reminiscing, cake, cats, and fireworks throughout Saturday, 26th of April around the Proteus’s landing site, near the Winking Creeper inn at the Avalon spawn field. According to my predictions there is only a 0.0001% chance of the party being interrupted by shenanigans, so everything will be fine!
You can reach Avalon easily by typing /warp avalon. Follow the road south and you’ll see the Proteus to your left and the Winking Creeper to your right.
- The last backup of Avalon will be taken at around 08:00 GMT.
- Cake cake cake cake cake cake 08:05 GMT onwards.
- Events and fun stuff will be hosted from 19:30 GMT.
- A final farewell will be waved at around 21:00 GMT.
After the last few months of selfhosting I’m sure a lot of you will be tired of the lag that’s been around. Today I’m finally moving our Minecraft server to a new proper host and I hope things will become much smoother as we look forward to the weekend farewell of Avalon!
The new IP for Cubic Worlds is 220.127.116.11.
Updated @ 20:15 GMT: Server files have been transferred and things are up and running – connect and enjoy!
For anyone curious, the new server is located in the central US in Dallas, Texas – this was the best compromise for giving all of our players around the world the best chance at being able to connect without too much lag. The provider for our hosting is HostBlaze.
In the event things somehow break, you can continue to get the latest news through the forum and IRC – at least when I’m not asleep… 😉
Greetings and happy Easter!
Due to technical difficulties, the first CW newsletter sent out at the beginning of the month didn’t quite go as planned and many of you are likely to have not received it at all. If you did get it and are now wondering why there’s another so soon – well, don’t worry, I don’t intend to make this more frequent than once every month or two after this!
(You can read the earlier newsletter here, if you’re curious.)
Read on after the break for the juicy info!
There was a widely-publicised internet bug discovered recently called “Heartbleed“, and many websites and services have been affected by it.
After the discovery of the bug, Mojang have recommended that all players should change the password for their Minecraft or Mojang accounts. (See this page for details.)
You can do this quickly and simply, depending on what type of account you use:
Thanks for your patience and attention to this matter.
This weekend Macpants will be hosting a bout of Capture the Tower in the hope we can get a proper match played! You can join the action tomorrow at around 20:00 GMT. Check out the forum thread for the full lowdown.
That’s not all, either – I’ll be hosting a few events as a warmup to keep people entertained as we head toward the main attraction. It might be The DROP, or some form of spleef, or even a mini-buildathalon – the only way to know for sure is to drop into the server from around 18:30 GMT onwards!
See you there, fellow Cubians!
A few things relating to the Cubic Worlds server and community have been tweaked recently, and one very important change is planned to happen this month. I wanted to let you know what’s going on and give you fair warning, so that nothing you’ve built on the server will be lost without your knowledge.
The full newsletter can be found after the break.
