The party hats are ready and the cake has been baked – all that’s needed are the guests…
Come celebrate the 3rd birthday of Cubic Worlds with a delicious new event to be held in Battenburg! Carefully crafted by our own SmokeAndMirrors, the party is sure to be lively and full of death fun! Will you and your teammates be able to survive outwit the dreaded Cookie Monster, or will he kill everyone steal all the delicious birthday goodies?…
Bouts of outrageous cake-based Battenburg action will happen throughout Sunday evening, GMT – probably from around 19:00 onwards but the Cookie Monster doesn’t work to a schedule… so it’s hard to know for sure!
Not interested in PvP but still want to join the party? That’s okay. We’ve got it covered – there’ll also be matches of The DROP and perhaps even some Pig Racing for anyone who fancies it. Join us if you can – I’ll see you there!
Huzzah, the weekend! That must mean it’s time for events!
Our attention has turned to arranging a replacement for Avalon’s semi-famous Portal Tower – this odd, not-really-a-tower structure was the hub for travelling to many interesting places instantly, and as we move resolutely into the era of Voxellia, the next Portal Tower design could be yours! We’re running a build-off contest to pick our new portal tower design, and as always the details are past the link on our forum.
Meanwhile, those who attended the Avalon farewell party last weekend got to enjoy a relic hunt for various momentos from the Avalonian spawn fields. To give players enough chance to collect the full set of eight, and to dish out some other quite juicy prizes, tomorrow there will be a special edition of The Lost Diamonds, entitled… wait for it… The Lost Relics! Get ready to start rummaging through a whole ton of chests from around 20:00 GMT.
We had a pretty good turnout on Saturday for our party to say a last goodbye to Avalon. There was cake, a relic hunt, cake, fireworks, more cake, and a closing photoshoot! Did I mention the cake?
Thanks to everyone who turned up throughout the evening to pay their respects, and indeed a big thank you to everyone who has played on the server since Avalon was created – you’ve made it a truly epic place that will be remembered fondly, and rightfully so.
Did you take any screenshots or even videos during the event? It would be awesome if you’d share them with us! Just click into this forum thread and post them there so that we can make sure they are recorded for posterity.
Here’s to the future!
After being our home for over two years, Avalon, a world of incredible history, is finally being moved off the server to take a well-earned rest. Come join me in saying goodbye as the switch is flicked!
There will be music, reminiscing, cake, cats, and fireworks throughout Saturday, 26th of April around the Proteus’s landing site, near the Winking Creeper inn at the Avalon spawn field. According to my predictions there is only a 0.0001% chance of the party being interrupted by shenanigans, so everything will be fine!
You can reach Avalon easily by typing /warp avalon. Follow the road south and you’ll see the Proteus to your left and the Winking Creeper to your right.
- The last backup of Avalon will be taken at around 08:00 GMT.
- Cake cake cake cake cake cake 08:05 GMT onwards.
- Events and fun stuff will be hosted from 19:30 GMT.
- A final farewell will be waved at around 21:00 GMT.
After the last few months of selfhosting I’m sure a lot of you will be tired of the lag that’s been around. Today I’m finally moving our Minecraft server to a new proper host and I hope things will become much smoother as we look forward to the weekend farewell of Avalon!
The new IP for Cubic Worlds is 184.108.40.206.
Updated @ 20:15 GMT: Server files have been transferred and things are up and running – connect and enjoy!
For anyone curious, the new server is located in the central US in Dallas, Texas – this was the best compromise for giving all of our players around the world the best chance at being able to connect without too much lag. The provider for our hosting is HostBlaze.
In the event things somehow break, you can continue to get the latest news through the forum and IRC – at least when I’m not asleep… 😉
Greetings and happy Easter!
Due to technical difficulties, the first CW newsletter sent out at the beginning of the month didn’t quite go as planned and many of you are likely to have not received it at all. If you did get it and are now wondering why there’s another so soon – well, don’t worry, I don’t intend to make this more frequent than once every month or two after this!
(You can read the earlier newsletter here, if you’re curious.)
Read on after the break for the juicy info!
There was a widely-publicised internet bug discovered recently called “Heartbleed“, and many websites and services have been affected by it.
After the discovery of the bug, Mojang have recommended that all players should change the password for their Minecraft or Mojang accounts. (See this page for details.)
You can do this quickly and simply, depending on what type of account you use:
Thanks for your patience and attention to this matter.
This weekend Macpants will be hosting a bout of Capture the Tower in the hope we can get a proper match played! You can join the action tomorrow at around 20:00 GMT. Check out the forum thread for the full lowdown.
That’s not all, either – I’ll be hosting a few events as a warmup to keep people entertained as we head toward the main attraction. It might be The DROP, or some form of spleef, or even a mini-buildathalon – the only way to know for sure is to drop into the server from around 18:30 GMT onwards!
See you there, fellow Cubians!
A few things relating to the Cubic Worlds server and community have been tweaked recently, and one very important change is planned to happen this month. I wanted to let you know what’s going on and give you fair warning, so that nothing you’ve built on the server will be lost without your knowledge.
The full newsletter can be found after the break.
Steves of Cubic Worlds, prepare yourself and your teammates for the coming battle!
Using only the equipment you are given before the contest begins, you must capture all of your team’s coloured wool from the clutches of the enemy, whilst at the same time preventing them from doing the same! A unique multi-layered arena awaits your heroics, and even includes the most devious of obstacles, a cactus maze…
The action will start at around 20:00 GMT on Monday the 31st of April. For a full description of the event, rules, and signups, check out the thread on our forum. Good luck, warriors!
